A new season is here and all kinds of industries are looking to the up and coming trends for the year ahead. Often when you say the word ‘trend’ fashion items or clothing spring to mind. However, roofs are just as susceptible to trends as any other product believe it or not. Your roof is a massive part of the exterior appearance of your home, bearing this is mind , it's certainly worth paying attention to it. Different types of roofing, materials and colours can dramatically impact the overall appearance of your home. Besides this, roofing can play a big part in the overall value of your home, including its durability and efficiency. So with this in mind, here are some of our top trends for the coming seasons roofs.

Solar roofs

As people are becoming more mindful about sustainability, solar roofing has increased in popularity in recent years. Solar roofing works by integrating solar panelling into traditional roofing materials. The amount of solar energy you produce is dependant on how much you use.

Cool roofs

While this type of roofing doesn’t generate energy like solar roofing, cool roofs are becoming a real trend, in addition to this they can decrease your energy bills which is undoubtedly an added bonus for many homeowners. Cool roofs are not a single type of roof as such, it's more of a technique as opposed to a material. Cool roofing blends several different methods to reduce heat and transfer to the structure below. Heat is transferred from the sun to your roof in a process called radiation. Once this process happens the heat is transferred to the structure below in a process called conduction.

Metal roofs

Metal roofs are similar to cool roofs in that they tend to reflect much of the sun’s heat, however there's a lot more to this type of roofing that you’d think. Metal roofs stand out due to their durability and appearance. The most traditional type of roofing for residential and commercial use is the standing seam roof. Standing seam roofs clear water quickly and simply. As well as this, the standing seams prevent seepage where the sheets meet. The smooth sheets also ensure that snow will slide off, preventing dangerous buildups in areas with heavy snow. Metal roofs also mimic the look of shake, tile, and slate, making it a highly versatile choice.
