Lead roofing

Lead roofing is something that combines a number of different services relating to the usage of lead as a main or supporting material. Lead is an ideal material for a wide range of functions. If you are considering using lead on your roof, here is everything you need to know.

As a building material, lead is known for being very malleable. This in turn makes it suited to a number of functions and ideal for roofs of various sizes and designs. You may not realise it but lead is actually one of the oldest materials used for roofing. It's got a seamless track record for creating sustainable and attractive roofs. Moreover, lead is extremely flexible and acts as a natural sealant - perfect for areas of a roof that need to be watertight.

Flat roofing

Lead is commonly used for flat roofing - this is because due to its durability and waterproofing properties. When a roof has got a small pitch, water has a tendency to pond. If this happens to occur, using lead is a way to ensure that moisture cannot seep into the property.

Chimney flashing

To prevent excess moisture getting into the home, you have to keep your chimney stacks well maintained. A good way to maintain your chimney is by installing lead flashing points where it joins to the rest of the roof. This would need to be carried out by a roofing expert to ensure that the roof tiles are properly protected.

Gutter lining

Concrete guttering is very common in properties built from the 1950 - 1970’s. This type of guttering is generally quite leaky and unreliable. If you have got concrete gutter on your roofing, lead is an excellent solution for keeping them strong, watertight and durable.

Lead slating

Another way that lead is used in the roofing industry is through the installation of lead slates. This is a popular option for tiles. As well as looking attractive, lead slates are robust and long-lasting, they require a minimal amount of maintenance to keep them in good condition.
